Samurai Army 1 Week WIP - 68 Men Painted.

1 Week into this project and I have done 68 men. I have a total of 150 Infantry and 13 Cavalry all together so still a few weeks to go at this rate. So far I have focussed mainly on the Ashigaru as they form the mainstay of the army.

As a huge group these models look awesome. These are speed painted and as a result some of the work is sloppy and individually they look average. I sacrificed quality for speed on this project.

The models are from Wargames Factory and I would highly recommend them. They certainly aren't as good as other manufacturers out there as many details are soft however for the price I recommend them for anyone who wants an army for Warhammer or Kings of War. The models are made up of about 9 pieces each making construction difficult at first.

I ended up doing freehand banners over transfers as I have spent my limit on this project already. For those interested I spent less than 200USD on this project and that got me 100 Ashigaru, 50 Samurai, 12 Cavalry, 1 Daimyo, 3 Buildings and oriental themes buildings plus a wizard and 1 Giant Samurai. Enough to make a 2000 point Kings of War force.

Anyway here are some pictures:

6mm Lizardmen Worjk in Progress

6mm Lizardmen Work in progress. Still dozens of monsters, hundreds of men and many heros to go! While painting is a breeze basing is a little on the delicate side. No idea how I am going to base these yet, I am thinking of just doing a dirt base but I am open to anything right now.

The tricky part is building up the base to cover the metal stands that the models are moulded on. Had to use a toothpick. Plenty of work to go! Let me know what you think:

Kings of War Samurai - The Beginning

Played a few games of Kings of War and had a very enjoyable time playing them. While waiting for my 6mm Lizardmen to have their bases sorted I decided to get my 28mm stuff started. I have over 150 Samurai and Ashigaru plus more on the way ready for my Samurai themed armies. At the moment I only have 2 cannon ready. The models are more than likely to arrive next week.

Anyway with Kings of War there is no model removal, instead focusing on how the unit behaves and fights as a group. I find it much more realistic over having to remove your models over time and it feels like a simplified historical game with Fantasy elements thrown in. So I went with Samurai for Kingdom of Man and I have high hopes to take them to the tournament for Kings of War later this year.

Anyway some photos and stuff of my work so far:

Lizardmen Have Arrived!

FInally my Lizard Horde has arrived! I took some photos for Scale and to sort of show off the Quality on these figures. I DID NOT feel like setting out all 350 or so of the normal guys but all the special stuff is photographed in their actual numbers.

Before we get to the pictures these I just wanted to say I am stunned at the level of detail present in these figures. They all have faces, their weapons have straps and texture and the list goes on. My camera cannot catch such detail on bare metal however when they are painted I hope I can really show off the detail. If in doubt check out the Micro World Fantasy Range for some lovely painted examples! The flying creatures are not from Micro World but from Magister Militum who sell A LOT of awesome models from many ranges and scales. I personally will be using these guys a lot inn the future. I simply used spare Howdahs on these birds.

These have had minimal work on them, so any flash or gaps are simply because I have yet to properly start on these. I am waiting on the bases to arrive before I can properly form them into units (after I painted them of course).

This army is huge. For Fantasy or Kings of War or any ruleset this can make a very large force. With 350 ish infantry (includes command and heroes), 16 large Ogre Lizards, 20 Cavalry, 6 Ankylosaurus, 4 Allosaurus, 1 Brachiosaurus, 4 Triceratops and then the 6 Quetzalcoatlus to add to this.

I used my beloved Lizard Warly and a Harlequin Jetbike for Scale (all I had nearby).

6mm Fantasy Lizardmen

After playing with historical games more and more I am finding out a lot of various rules and styles I enjoy. One of those things is mass battles with no individual model removing. With Age of Sigmar emerging from the pits of GW all this talk of the Kings of War ruleset has got me interested in fantasy.

Originally I was just going to get a historical army and use them with the KoW rules. However I simply fell in love with these Lizards:

Type 95 Ha-Go Tank Diorama

Hey guys. Been a long time since I updated but I have finally got something worth putting up and that is my first attempt at a Diorama. I have had a lot of fun painting this bad boy up and I still have a lot of work to do! To come are Japanese Cavalry and the Tank Crew. Anyway here are some pictures:

Huge Harlequin Army - I now hate Diamonds...

I got a lot painted while on holiday the last few weeks since the weather wasn't the greatest which gave me plenty of time!

All thats left to paint is the Wraith Knight, 13 Harlequins and 1 Shadowseer. Once my Spray Paint arrives I will get these done ASAP. I kept a coherent theme throughout what I have painted and will continue to do so.

The wraith knight has been Harlequinized, but I think I will put some Masks here and there to help it out.

 Anyways, more pics:

Praetorian badger Riders Test Mount

Finally started painting my Praetorian Rough Riders, a loong way to go. I green stuffed an animal skin on top to act as some kind of saddle for the rider.

Anyway what do you guys think?

Harlequin Jetbikes (Not Skyweavers)

I found these really cool jetbikes and was sold on them as soon as I read that they had Harlequin Head and Jetbike bits! I have 6 all together so I am just waiting on some bits to make my 6th bike a Harlequin Farseer or something.

Sorry for the Pics, but its cold here, so these will do until they get some paint!

Here is a rough summery of what went down....

Harlequin Progress... Lots of Diamonds

Harlequins

I have been trying very hard to improve my painting lately and have gone from spray painting my vehicles their base colour and then doing minor details to what you see below.

Saving Money With Harlequins

Just some tips for those after some Harlequins and dont wanna drop too much cash!

Notice on your Harlequin Troupe kit, you have plenty of arms heads and options and 1 extra torso. The pic below shows how you can use this torso! Dark Eldar legs (specifically scourge legs) with a bit of trimming work really well as another set of legs. If you have spare Eldar legs lying around this works too.

This increases your troupe box from 6 to 7 models!

Harlequins and Goblins! Hoby Progress

I caved in and decided to start a Harlequin force. With such gorgeous models I couldn't resist! I even managed some freehand Diamonds on them as well (you can see the diamonds on the green one look worse than the red one, but im getting better!)

The First GW Store set to be Demolished

I came across this today:

"The first ever Games Workshop store is to be demolished. Located in Hammersmith, in west London, the store was opened in April 1978. It's not currently a Games Workshop store; the building is occupied by a translation business. When it was opened, nearly 40 years ago, people lined up in the street. Games Workshop was created in 1975 in Nottingham by John Peake, Ian Livingstone, and Steve Jackson, all of whom had left the company by the 1990s. It is the publisher of games like Warhammer, and Warhammer 40K. No word yet on whether it's being demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass.
Actually, the current tenants of the building indicate that it is being demolished to make way for residential flats."

Mordheim Campaign Part 1

An odd alliance has formed. The Lizardmen have come to an agreement with a Vampire and a Pirate Captain to combat the Elven and Norse invaders penetrating into the sacred jungles.

3 games played today. I will give a rough summary of the game and then the aftermath. But first off here is my painting of the Warband so far. The big guy is my Totem Warrior, The Saurus is a brave and the Priest is well a priest. The Saurus is not yet done, but he is being currently sorted out. I have also converted my Skinks to have bows but you can see more of them when they get some paint on them.

Mordheim - The Start of a Campaign

So with the 9th Edition Fantasy Rumors going around along with the ludicrous destruction of the moon along with the Lizard race (well mostly) I decided to go back to a simpler time. That simpler time would be during the era of Mordheim, where my Lizards are bonkers, racist beyond measure and have deep social issues nation wide. So started the beginning of  our Mordheim campaign.

Reaver Titans, Killer Crustaceans and more

Im finally back after a bit of a break. I have been getting heaps done like restoring a Reaver Titan, painting a few bits and pieces and getting plenty of games in. Im hoping to get in a huge Apocalypse game next month which will feature 6+ titans and a bunch of Cannon Fodder so I have been restoring bits of 40k pieces that have been in storage for a while.

Planetfall and Firestorm Games have been great in our area, lots of terrain being made along with lots of painting being complete (always nice to see).

Anyway here are some pics of the last couple of games. Just putting them up until something interesting happens for me to show you all.
