The First 40k Giveaway!

I have had this unit of Warp Spiders for a long time. Almost a year ago now I sold them to a fellow, he payed but I never got his postal address after many emails and I think its been long enough that he isnt going to complete the trade. So I decided that since they have been paid for, they will be sent to someone else for free!

Up for Grabs is 10 Warp Spiders. 4 Finecast, 1 Finecast Exarch, 5 Metal. All unpainted!

So winning this is simple. On the top right hand corner of this blog is a add to circles button. Simply do that AND post below why you would like this unit and the winner will be randomly selected. To sweeten the deal I will put a bunch of mystery figures in there too. I have a HUGE container of bits and minis so I may (if you wish) grab a bunch of bits/models from my spare box which contains historic, 40k, fantasy and many 3rd party soldiers and bits.

Pretty easy really.

The competition will be done in.. 2 weeks time. So on the 11th of October (NZ time) I will reveal the winner with a pic of random stuff and the Warp Spiders. Then as soon as the details are given I will pay for them to be shipped your way.

The unit of Spiders you will receive are veterans from a formidable Eldar force of the past. They had raked up a long list of enemy vehicles on their kill list. From Chimeras, Leman Russ and the list goes on. Nothing survived the torrent of fire from these hit and run specialists. But it is not the Eldar way to not test their skills for too long. So now they are longing for a new force to fight alongside. Ever improving their ability to navigate the warp and spit death from their weapons.

The Warp Spiders are my second favorite unit in the Warhammer 40K game.  They embody one of the most extreme tactics of shock and awe in the entire game, zapping across fields at an alarming rate, boasting a lethal volume of high strength weaponry. Perhaps most unusual about the unit is their high armour. Most fast units choosing instead to use lighter armour to give them freedom of movement on the battle field. But their ability to use their warp generators allows them to have the maximum armour in the Craft World arsenal whilst retaining the fastest speed overall on the battle field.

These guys are what I look for in many of my armies. Speed, power, defense and the lore behind them is cool as hell. I dont know if Warp Spiders are found often at tournaments, but these are my favorite Aspect and the one I found most useful on the battlefield.

So if you have been eyeing these guys up to add to your force, or want a unit to paint up, as said above simply state why you want them in the comments below and add me to your circles (I will add you all back too). This achieves a few things. The most important is I get to see on the Google plus screen what you guys are up to in the blogging community and you guys also get to see mine and more importantly these lonely unpainted guys will find a new home. Whatever came of the fellow who purchased them a year ago, im sure he wouldn't mind me doing this.

JUST TO CONFIRM YOU MUST BOTH ADD AND COMMENT TO BE IN TO WIN. IF YOU DONT DO BOTH I WILL ASSUME YOU ARE ADDING ME BUT DO NOT WANT TO WIN.

Thanks guys.

  1. While you'll no doubt find some better hobbyists, I'll still throw my hat in the ring to get those Warp Spiders. As far as my reasons, I'm kinda burned out lately with my Imperial Guard and have been trying other things. Imperial Knights have been 150% fun and assassins are a hoot and a half, but Eldar have always tempted me with their arrogant but subtle ways of war. Within the Eldar, Warp Spiders are perhaps my favorite unit, only finding Howling Banshees and Warlocks to be competition. Gaining these models might persuade me to start an Eldar force, probably an Ulthwe Strike Force themed army to ally with my IG.

My wife is also considering starting an army and Eldar tempted her.

    1. Well so far you have 100% chance of winning!

Good luck mate. I loved the Eldar when I played them. So many options and all of them being good. I ran a 100% Aspect Warrior army. If it wasnt an Apsect, I didnt take it. I still managed to do well!

      Good luck mate.

  2. I'll always been kind of stand offish about the Eldar. I like their looks, but have been hesitant to play them, after playing Dark Angels for so long. I really want to start an Eldar army and this would be an awesome start to it! Anyhow, congratulations whoever wins!

Well as a guard/ inquisition player I have always despised xenos but I have always been temped to pick up a box set my local hobby store has one xenos player and he doesn't really count because he plays a nids army everyone else is chaos or imperium players so I'm throwing my hat in call me a heretic if you must

I think its now at 33.33333% chance.

  4. I've got a brother looking to get into the hobby, so far he's been using my models to play his games. He had decided on choosing Eldar as his main force, and is looking to get a Sword-wind style army. I'd love to help him get into the hobby more by getting these Warp Spiders for him.

By the way, props to you on going forward to give these away instead of simply putting them back up for re-selling.

  5. It might seem silly, but I own the Eldar Codex ...and only two Guardian models. I thoroughly enjoyed painting them up in candy-coated colours, however, and if given these Warp Spiders I will paint them in a delightfully ostentatious scheme and use them for painting contest giveaways! Thanks for the opportunity!

  7. Hey - just starting up Eldar again after a hiatus (4th edition) and would love to add some Warp Spiders to the Craftworld. I've got a pool-water theme going on that looks great on their jump packs. Goal is to have a 2000 pt army painted up soon so I can pass it off to my two girls and get them interested in some wargaming fun. It's better than Instagram, I swear!

  8. I'll have a go, never win anything anyway... actually i tell a lie, I won a packet of chewits playing a bingo game at school...when i was 10 and just about to leave for secondary school. Big fish small pond so to speak.... Oh and also won £10 on the National lottery 2 times....

Anyway going off on a tangent, guess its an early warning that this might be long winded.....But an actual reason for a chance at the spiders is that i am currently finishing up my Ulthwe strike force (in fact i will post an update on my blog to illustrate this!)

Now i am one for themed forces, as such I have limited the aspects that i think belong to an Ulthwe force. Because you know, Ulthwe don't really do aspects, Psychic jiggery pokery is their bag. But the aspects i have deemed fit with the fluff are, Spiders, reapers, Dragons and the ubiquitous Avengers who are most likely to hang with the black guardians. Why? Let me tell you the ways....
Starting with reapers, because during the 13th crusade Maugan Ra and his reaper buddies teamed up with the Ulthwe strike forces to deliver Eldar style intervention to the twisting strands of fate. Easy!
Second Easiest are the Avengers, they are everywhere and since they are basically black guardians with a slightly more range-y gun, its an easy transition for those who need to have a stint as an aspect but just really want to become warlocks.
The most tenuous aspect are the dragons, the only reason i fit them in is cos they tend to look better with a darker colour scheme than the bright orange. It contrasts too much with the black anyhow, But their fusion guns are usefull anyway
Finally to the spiders...they take their name from the tiny crystalline creatures that patrol the infinity circuit, attacking and devouring any warp spawned fragments that might potentially contaminate the circuit. Since Ulthwe are all about tackling warp spawned evilness being near the eye of terror and all, thought they fit right in.

So more spiders are good for my force. This is in spite of having 2 units already. As there is a bit of in balance as one unit is in the colours of 20yrs ago. Being nostalgic, and looking to the past (like the Eldar) can't bring myself to repaint them in my latest dapper scheme i came up with.
Being Eldar, this doesn't sit well as there is a lack of symmetry to the force now. So i need another unit to be painted up in the new scheme so they can sit on each flank and the old schoolers hold up the middle..

Hope that makes it clear! :D

P.s was already following your wonderful blog after the reaver post, but not via google, just added it to my blog roll! So long time reader! ;)

  9. Ive just finished building 4500 points of Blood Angels, some of it secondhand off my father, some of it purchased with money I got from doing odd jobs, and I was sorely disappointed in their performance on the TT. As a teen its rather hard to get the cash needed to fund an army, and then to find out just how poor they are is just rubbing salt into the wound. Ive been into 40k for over a decade now (played my first game at six), and the first army i started to collect was eldar because i liked the models.

At the time I was too young to really grasp the complexity and strategy that was needed to play them well, and when my father left us he took the models with him. He eventually sold them as I was hardly ever there to play with them, and Ive been more and more nostalgic about them as time goes on.

Now Im about to graduate and go off to college, and at the same time I find myself more sucked into the crack-like addiction to GW plastics. Id like to have a full Eldar force again one of these days, as a nice second army.

  11. I would love to have these Warp Spiders, not for myself, but for my girlfriend who has just begun collecting an Eldar army. When we started dating, she became very interested in the hobby as a whole. The painting, the game, everything. It's been a way for us to connect through a hobby that I've loved for years, and that I hope she'll love for years to come.

However, since money has been tight for the both of us due to school, bills, etc., she's had to put off on buying any more models for the time being. Having these Warp Spiders would give her another few models to paint, and allow her army to grow a bit more. It would make her more than happy to receive such a gift!

On that note, I wish the best of luck to everybody entering in this draw! I know that whoever will win will be quite happy!

  13. Howdy! Lovely blog, and even better giveaway! I'd like to put my hat into the ring for the Warp Spiders, because I run a club at the High School where I teach. An Eldar army (small, nothing spectacular) was donated to us by a former student who moved away. We're stripping the paint, and getting the new guys involved in painting up the "studio" army!

Long story short, the addition of some warp spiders will be a hell of an addition to the army of all these new kids that want to borrow our "studio" army to learn how to play and get a feel for the army.

Even if we're not selected, whoever gets these models is very fortunate - way to go with the charity, bro!

  14. Been building an Eldar army for a few years as a poor student from things on Trade Me and really heavily discounted sales. I'm always getting my ass kicked by my brother and nephew who also play but with Tau, Dark Eldar, Orks, Tyranids and Space Marines. Been thinking Spiders would be a good option to go for, had started the idea of converting old DE Warriors with Tau Drones to try and pull off some Spiders but being rather untalented in that respect winning some would be fun. :P hahaha.

    1. Yea I know the feeling mate. On both accounts! These guys are awesome and they will certainly learn to be feared by your brothers. Especially 10 of the buggers! 24. I would love to win these spiders for my Eldar army. They're one of the most fun units in the codex in my opinion, with insane mobility, heavy firepower, good survivability, and even a bit of randomness, and the chance for some of your own guys to explode. I already have 5 of them, but being able to drop in 3 small squads, or blob up would really add some versatility to my force.

  25. I love Eldar! They are the first 40k army I own when I started playing non-historicals in 2000. Bought a 3rd Ed Eldar Battleforce and a Codex and painted the whole thing up real fast - even before I got the rulebook! Anyways, 14 years later I've built quite a huge Eldar collection, but I think it's time I started a new Eldar army. After all, I started a whole bunch of IG and other armies in all that time. And with Warp Spiders, Biel-Tan Craftworld beckons.

  35. Hey

Really wonderful thing you are doing here, the guy who originally wanted these really missed out.

Loved the warp spiders ever since dawn of war, especially due to their portrayal in the intro scene of DOW2. I have been trying to get a flatmate back into 40k after a long hiatus, she started many years ago with a small eldar force which I am trying to get her to expand. Unfortunately warhammer is quite expensive of late and the costs are difficult to justify the amount of models she would need for a large army.

  37. My force, hailing from Craftworld Renia, is in desperate need of reinforcements! An army focusing on hit and run tactics, my brave squads of Swooping Hawks would find great comfort in knowing that they have equally fast and hard hitting comrades en-route to back them up in their struggle.

Fluffy appeal aside, I admire your spirit in giving these away. I would buy some myself but have recently had hundreds of dollars in medical billing come in. (I'm now uninsured because my plan didn't cover maternity...) So I haven't really been able to spend more money on refining my Eldar force. I am happy to share pictures of them! As Eldar are my only force (I have some Astra Militarum models but nothing big), I promise you that I will put those models to use. I promise I will not flip around and resell them on eBay as I am sure others may attempt to do. I will even send painted follow up pictures to you as proof of their arrival, painting, and inclusion into the force!

On another note, I'm glad that I found your blog! I also have one about writing, and involving some of my warhammer. So feel free to check that out as well :)

  39. Not sure if I done this right the first time, (i'll make this short then) apologies if this is a second post.

I've always loved warp spiders, from when I first saw then in 3rd ed codex. I have 5 metal ones, so more metal would be great, and would run a second finecast lot.

Hope I done the follow thing right too..

    1. Dont worry mate, you followed all the instructions perfectly. So you are in the draw.

See which ones perform better for me if you win, the fine cast group or the metal group haha.

  40. Oh man! This would be perfect. I started 40k with Eldar back in high school, and my first army had a squad of warp spiders. They were my reigning champs - however due to some very unfortunate circumstances, they were disposed of along with the rest of my Eldar army at the time. It took me quite awhile to come back to Eldar, but my forces have been rebuilt and then some, but still I lack those monster/tank killing Warp spiders and haven't gotten around to adding them back to my force yet.

    Here's to hoping! *fingers crossed*

    1. Good luck mate, the eldar will rise again!

  41. Why do I want them? Because they're armed-to-the-teeth, badass space elves that will teleport IN YOUR FACE and stab/shoot you to death while laughing behind their uncaring, unflinching masks of death.

..and you just KNOW they have a Darth Vader voice modulator in those helmets. "Forget that cripple on his golden toilet, I am your father! ...just kidding lol" *SLASH* *BAM*

    1. I imagined them with the new bane voice from Batman :P

"This is the part where we turn your limbs to salami, goodbye"

      Good luck dude.

  42. Damn, that's exactly what I need for my Eldar! I am a new player, started about 4 months ago and decided to play Eldar because I really liked the models. I am slowly building an aspect army and warp spiders are a must, but they are damn expensive so I didn't have the chance to get any yet. I was looking to buy some when I stumbled upon this awesome giveaway so here I go! Anyway, win or lose your blog is really interesting so I will keep visiting anyways. Keep it up!

    1. Cheers mate, thanks for that.

Yea a full unit of these guys are definitely a huge helping hand to a new player. Especially if you have an Aspect Warrior Army (its how eldar should fight in my opinion).

      Good luck!

  43. Well, I've played Spess Mahreen, Space GI JOE, Chaos Spess Mahreens and maybe once as da Orkz. However, never have I felt as being quite enough as a special snowflake. That is until I bought one of the few remaining 10 man boxes of Dire Avengers. As I assembled these guys I felt something click with in me. I felt... sparkly. I felt like I was the greatest thing in the grimdark only future! I would like to own these warp spiders so that I can better show everyone just how super special awesome the Eldar and I are!

I'm in. If I win it'll be the right kick up the bum I need to finally start that 2nd ed Eldar army I've been muttering about for the last year....

  45. Really cool of you to do this!

  46. I made the stupid mistake of starting to sell off my Eldar army, including some older warp spiders. I would really love a chance to get even better replacements for my losses.

Looking forward to reading more in your blog.
