A Call to Arms - Flames of War Tournament

I have just been informed that Call To Arms has Flames of War as a playable game in the tournament coming this August. So I decided rather recently that I may try get in on the action. Its time for the Empire of Japan to take its rightful place and dominate the lesser nations of the world. BANZAI!

This is a great opportunity to branch out and see what else is out there in this game. I have mainly played against 2 players with limited terrain options and list variations. I have no idea how im gonna do in a city fight! All I can do is hope that I learn fast and keep up with the flood of new lists and tactics I am about to expose myself to.

Thankfully my army will be painted so I will be sure get a lot of nice pictures during this event.

I have never been to a tournament before and it got me thinking about some of the "dangers" of playing with a closed group of people for years. I noticed that I hardly need to change how I play my armies beyond feeling like a change. While playing with a tight group certainly holds many advantages, it does lead to a lack of variety and change at times. So this is my first taste of gaming outside my little group.

So wish me luck!

  1. Nice pics of your army! Ever done the Malayan campaign against early-war Brits?

    1. I wish. Im stuck fighting early war German infantry and Finnish infantry haha. Although I hope historical gaming catches on here so I have some cool campaigns that make sense. I do slay Germans pretty well though haha.

  2. Using your Finns? Sounds rough. I've only played 1 early war campaign so far. France 1940, with my German tank force. That was loads of fun. Early war rocks

    1. I mean the Finns and Germans are my enemy. My Japs have to stab them to death usually. Early war tanks are fun, for example my tanks can be bailed by rifles! Its certainly an interesting period. How do you find all tank lists? I am planning on getting a Tank force soon but I havent decided if its worth it or not.

  3. Ah i see. My early war Germans is my first tank army, and even then it's supported by a Pioneer platoon, Luftwaffe 88s and Stukas. My late war Brits and Germans are built as infantry formations, with tank support. I believe in infantry, and I do find that it's easy to beat all-tank armies. They look great though, here's my friend's Germans: http://adeptusmalaysia.blogspot.com/search/label/FoW%3A%20German%20SS%20Panzerkompanie , though I like his US armored infantry better: http://adeptusmalaysia.blogspot.com/search/label/FoW%3A%20American%20Armored%20Rifle%20Company

    2. You'll be ok. Infantry trumps all-tank almost all the time - unless you get 100% open steppes or desert. Than I commend your brave warriors' sould to the Emperor. :) Just noticed that you can have similar war cries for your FoW Japanese and your Praetorians!

Btw, good to know you're a brush man too. Your work looks awesome

    1. Cheers haha. I find painting Warhammer regiments very tough as it feels like a crazy production line of boredom (until you see the finished result). But I am getting there.

  5. Looking forward to it. I kinda gave up on Warhammer fantasy last year. I had about 3000pts of Orcs & Goblins assembled and ready to paint for abou 10 years. Finally gave up and gave the army to a good buddy of mine. At least he'll do some justice to it.

    1. I only recently started. Not a fan of the background and the rules are ok, but the models are nice so I play it every so often. Fantasy is pretty popular in my group so it helps get me games. I do enjoy the magic phase a lot however.

  6. ya, the rules are good. And you're right, the models are awesome. Fantasy is experiencing a renaissance in my group. I think the latest edition seemed to have sparked it off. You migh want to check out the stuff they've done on Facebook. Look for Legio Malaysia (the club), and Hobby Forge (the store)
