Demon Project Complete!

"For even the mutant, in its most disgusting form, can serve the Imperium. He that is mutated will give his life for the empire, charging forth to do battle for our most glorious Emperor, against the heretic, and the alien, and should he find himself facing the horror of his own kind, the mutant shalt not falter, for that is not His Will."           Revered Cardinal Vallus II (AKA Don) at a muster containing over 30% mutated human soldiers before sending them to their deaths against a much larger force of Orks.

I got an email today with a cool picture of my count as Demons for Imperial Guard all together look rather stunning.

Before I get onto some fluff etc, here are some more pictures:

Thank You Readers Again!

I started this blog technically 12 months ago (although post number one is at the very end of January) and so far things have been a lot of fun. So I decided to make a post featuring the milestones of my blog and thanking those who read it.

Perhaps the Greatest Guard Project Ever Attempted

So after yesterdays small nostalgia post I had an idea... I wanted to have a model of each soldier depicted in the first Imperial Guard Codex.

Listed in that book are 51 Guardsmen not including Cavalry and Tank Commanders (unsure if those will be done). So this is the introduction post to this project, as each step is complete I will post it here for C&C and hopefully this project can be as good as I imagine.

So lets go on to the details of this project...

Just my favorite model...

Another Imperial Guard Inspiration Post - Regiments

I finally found a really good scan on these 2 amazing pages from an old Imperial Guard codex. These are but a few of the many Regiments fighting under the imperial banners! So much inspiration from History, mythology and sci fi tropes this page tries to make it very clear that there is a regiment for any theme out there!

Firestorm Games New Releases! Ground and Space Forces

Spartan has announced another wave of models to be released since the last release shipped out a few days ago. This is exceptionally exciting as a new starter set is being put up for pre order!

Guard vs Eldar - A Costly Battle!

Had my first 40k game in a while and it was kinda fun. Somewhat frustrating rules for buildings and hard to get used to I go you go turns again. But as usual the game looked lovely.

Anyway I was up against some eldar at 1K points.

Prussian + British Squats

Alright, the Squat forces have grown once more! Many have already seen my Praetorian Squats but just the other day the next batch of Squats came in the mail. The Prussian Squats.

These models are so much cooler than the first kickstarter. Im planning on painting them black and gold but I will see how it goes as I paint em. Anyway here are some out of the box pics:

Choices, Choices. Alternate Chimera

With my latest small 40k force here with me know I need to finish it off. For the first time ever I am doing a mechanized themed Guard army.

For 1K points I can have 55 soldiers (already complete), 7 Chimeras and one Scout Sentinel.

Needing 7 Chimeras is pretty pricey when buying from GW here, so after looking at overseas sellers and weighing up my options I decided to look for alternatives. I found a few. I wont be mentioning historical kits for this even though there are plenty of great ones out there.

Fist up this is the cheapest option I found. I mean crazy cheap!

Magos Dominus - With a Twist

I got an email today with an update on my counts as Demons. I am thoroughly impressed!

So im thinking that these can be cybernetic vegetables sitting in some nasty ship, then when in dire situations a psyker can pit itself at risk to teleport them to the field. They arrive covered in goo and ready fight.

I personally prefer this to using Demons in an Imperial Force, plus I have the added benefit of using them in roleplays, other guard attachments and so on.

So if anyone wants to flesh out some cool fluff for these guys feel free to!

Let me know what you think of the models so far!

Thanks to Oliver for your great painting as usual!

Sneak Peak - Imperial Guard Demons Counts As

I got some WIP pics from my favorite painter today and thought I would share whats going on with my latest 40k project. I dont play 40k much any more but doesn't mean the universe doesn't have some cool options for modeling etc to use!

So here is my planned units for demonology when my Guard decide to go bad!

The Flame throwers are flamey demons, the troopers are whatever demons I please and the big guy is a greater demon. The Greater Demon is from Forge World while the other models are from Anvil Industries.

Anyway let me know what you think!

The Terquai Recon Forces Painted

I spent time painting in between my turns playing Firestorm Armada today and this is the result.

All I need to do now is gloss/varnish the green visors on these guys.

Let me know what you think? (pics below)

Planetfall - Painting and Huge Game!

Played a game of Planetfall which included 2 Starter sets and 1 allied set per side. I dont have much time to go into details but it didn't take too long. The Aquans won with ease as we speedily took our objectives and eliminated our foes who didnt plan their attack well.

We have made Planetfall!

Planetfall has arrived and everything so far is awesome! We got it 2 days ago and despite having to go to work this morning we played this game into the late hours of the night. I was meant to do the Firestorm write up but this was too exciting so I played this instead!

This is what you get in 2 planetfall starter sets with the allied recon sets as well:

Heavy Aquan Tanks (without turret glued)

Firestorm Armada - Grand Fleet Clash

First game in the Garage! The battle is intense, hundreds of lives sucked into the void of Space, hulls corroding, cyber warfare wreaking havoc among crew, mines are devastating both friend and foe while fighters weave their way through the battle and carnage.

Taurox Wheel Kit!

Its been a while since my last post!

Shifting house currently and just waiting one week more for my internet to be online. But Victoria Miniatures has released the Taurox APC wheel kit finally and it looks pretty cool! So I thought I would share.

Alternate Death Korps of Krieg - Complete

Im not a fan of the fluff behind the Death Korps of Krieg at all, but I do love how they look. So as I was looking around the internet I found these guys you see now. These guys are from Anvil Industries range found here.

Anyway before I talk about the project here are some pictures of Mordor Miniatures work.

The Final Banzai - Bolt Action Review

I didn't get to play this game, but instead got 2 other players to play while I was the rule informant. I figured i'd rather wait a bit more before I get to play and hopefully have some people excited about it then play and have one less person give it a shot. Over all I would say the game was a success.

Unfortunately I forgot to charge my camera! So this will be more a brief review of the game and how much I enjoyed it (despite not playing directly). However enjoy random pics that fit the topic instead...

Fall of the Rising Sun - Bolt Action

I am pretty excited to be playing Bolt Action for the first time tonight and am hoping it takes off. For this battle we will be using the starter sets for Japan and Russia. I have been dying to play this and have worked really hard this week to put together all the scraps I got second hand into a functional army. I will be having a test game with 2 others at the club who are interested  in trying it as well.

Note these arent my models in the pictures.

This so far has been a huge second hand project and the army is gonna need some work. But that hasnt curbed my excitement for this game yet.

The battle tonight takes place in early August of 1945 in one of the pockets of resistance held out by remnants of the Kwantung Army. The wounded had been left behind to die and what little ammo and equipment that could be scavenged has been scrapped together for the defenders to try hold out. With honour they will fight to the death, against the most veteran and elite army in the world at the time, the Soviet Red Army.

When to Surrender?

We have all been in situations where defeat seems inevitable and we simply start losing joy in the game. This is pretty normal and nobody loves losing, but its times like these when we must remember that there is a player on the other side and that it may be better to simply fight it out to the end. So I thought I would do a post on something that bugs me when I wargame. And that is the art of surrendering.

Hobby Update! - Too Much!

A lot going on in my hobby world at the moment. Ranging from new games to old projects being revived. So much excitement and more importantly soon a new house will allow me to hopefully take some decent pictures of my progress and games.

Below are the biggest projects happening for me this week and im rather excited actually.

WARHAMMER 40k

My counts as Demons are getting done currently. They look amazing. I have had so much fun summoning Demons in 7th that I just had to get some. Wanting to be different I went with the below!

(more pictures when the next update arrives).

Into The Storm Zone!

I have been busy painting last night and to my amazement I cooked dinner, did some work and painted my entire fleet for Thursdays battle! It did however, keep me up until midnight but boy they look good. I dont have photos of the whole fleet but you will see them in action soon.

Our first game of Firestorm Armada will be a baptism in fire with 2 huge alliance fleets meeting in the first of many engagements. Commander with no experience, patch up fleets and more importantly lots of ambition. The Kurak alliance fleet contains the Nuke Spewing Terran's, the Mine laying Crustaceans of the Aquan's and their faithful hippie allies of Terquai. The Zenian League is made up of the Sinister Directorate manipulating the Dindrenzi Traitors to fight for their will.

The First 40k Giveaway!

I have had this unit of Warp Spiders for a long time. Almost a year ago now I sold them to a fellow, he payed but I never got his postal address after many emails and I think its been long enough that he isnt going to complete the trade. So I decided that since they have been paid for, they will be sent to someone else for free!

Up for Grabs is 10 Warp Spiders. 4 Finecast, 1 Finecast Exarch, 5 Metal. All unpainted!

The Easterlings March Forth - LOTR

I had the hard decision last night of playing Firestorm Armada or Lord Of the Rings. I do not regret choosing Lord of the Rings at all. I played as the Easterlings last night with some amazing models and scenery that some avid LOTR players brought down for a demo game. 4 games where being played featuring many races and the veil side took a clear sweeping victory on all the games!

Some nice pictures of my game and a few of the games beside me.

The Mighty Aquan Fleet

I have started painting my new Aquan Fleet  for Firestorm Armada that arrived a few days ago and have enjoyed it a lot. The idea was to paint them as fast as I could and well it was a pretty fast paint job! Unfortunately I only had enough Spray Paint for the 3 cruisers but tomorrow I will continue the job after a few games.

Anyway here are some pics:

Firestorm Armada - Planetfall

Awesomely enough the club is getting into Fire Storm Armada and Planetfall. I am especially excited for this because the idea of huge fleets battle in space is epic. Add the fact that we can have ground forces that belong with these fleets and THEN have them participate in a connected campaign just sweetens the deal.

October 22nd the pre-orders for Planetfall ship so expect unboxing and reviews for the Aquan Prime Naval and Landing Forces. Here are some pics of what I have purchased and some preview shots of what the battle fields can look like!

German Squats on the way!

I am very excited to get these models a few months from now. The kick starter was funded with all stretch goals so I thought I would share what I have ended up funding!

Finding it harder to enjoy GW Games - Rant

Bolt Action has got me incredibly excited about playing it. I have been watching battle reports, planning themes and even planning future armies! It probably doesn't help that history is my main interest in any form of entertainment over Sci Fi and Fantasy, but something about playing other game systems and even GM'ing and participating in Role Plays has really shined a light on how bad GW games really are.

Starting Bolt Action!

I have starting getting an interest in Bolt Action from Warlord Games and have decided to buy some forces for the game. In an effort to start getting more Historical Games played in my group, and Flames of War already getting its foothold in the club, Bolt Action seems perfect to nudge a few more players into something outside of 40k games.

Moa Riders? Tox Flame Troopers? A Hobby update

Well I have decided to slowly build up an Army of Rough Riders and have been fishing around for ideas. The Badger Riders have convinced me that Rough Riders is the main route to 40k happiness for me!

So I thought I would share the next model in my Rough Rider Collection!

Grey Knights Vs The Praetorian Guard

After one of the Praetorian Regiments started summoning demons to aid them in battle, the Grey Knights got word of it and immediately went to eliminate the traitors.

The remnants of the Praetorian force was a tattered shell of its former glory, now stuck wandering the planet it had now been stranded on. Their hardships where not yet over...

To read the full report go to The Dice Odyssey Below are just pics and comments of the battle!

Rex (my opponent) wrote a pretty cool fluffy commentary and report on the game. Well worth the read!

Badgers performed well (not really...) and my demons won me the game which really limited actual casualties. All in all, technically came to a close victory. Although, next time Rex will have better gear...

Praetorian Rough Riders + Praetorian Vindicare

So here is an update (finally) on the Badger riders. Im happy with them so far, but lets hear what you guys think!

Since the Officio Asassinorum data slate came out its inspired me to build one of every assassin. So here is the Praetorian Vindicare! Definitely more of these to come...

Call to Arms - First Flames of War Early Tournament

Hey Guys, this took forever to upload because the camera produces large pictures haha. Makes blogging difficult!

Anyway, this was my first tournament. 1450 points early war. Of 20 people who participated, I came 11th tied with 19 points. Had 2 wins, 2 losses and one timed out loss.

I had a huge blast, saw some awesome games being played and some amazing armies. Anyway here is a lot of pictures to look at!

The Hobby Side of Things: Progress - Concern - Motivation

A few things before I start. The Ork Hunt will commence tonight! But the Comic Batrep will be written over a few days so that its not rushed. Also the Badger Mounts have arrived along with the Special Mount which will be revealed alongside them soon! Things are progressing hobby wise so far.

Also here is a preview of my "Demons" currently being painted by Oliver from Equinox Painting

The Ork Hunt Comic Batrep Preview + Flames of War

I got myself a new camera the other day and am loving the new quality of the pics! I am a bit too busy to do an in depth report so here is some pictures and a summery of the totally accurate battle between the Finnish Army ad the Imperial Japanese Army.

Thank You Readers

Today marks a pretty decent moment in the blogging history of the Imperial Patrol. The blog is roughly 6 months old (dont count January, that post annoys me to this day because its one day away from being in February!) and I just thought it would be nice to thank the readers for giving me reason to post!

So lets go through some blog achievements in this 6 month anniversary (or close enough)!

Kill Team Comic Battle Report

I thought i would try do my first Comic Batrep today. Boy I under estimated how difficult it would be! So here is my first attempt!

The team has been sent to investigate some deadly plant life and prepare to have it removed for the coming garrison. Little did they know what they where in for...

WW1 Army WIP Part 2

Following on from Part 1 here my WW1 project is coming along slowly. Unfortunately my current living situation is not very good for painting. I'm hoping my next day off work is a sunny one so I can really knuckle down and get to work!

So far this is my basic test model.

A Great Painter Looking For Work

If you read my Battle Reports then these guys will be familiar to you. These are my Scottish Imperial Guardsmen. The person who painted these put a lot of effort into the detail and quality when painting them and boy it shows! The kilts vary in shading and pattern, some men have stubble and the hair has been done in varying shades as well. Truly amazing work right here.

The painter was Oliver Maclean and he is back in the commission business looking for some work!

More of his work can be seen below.

Corrupt Praetorians VS Eldar 7th Edition Battle Report

Orks are delayed again unfortunately so instead my Praetorians had to fight off more Eldar Punks. Except this time... this time... my Praetorians turned to Chaos for answers. Did they find the luck they needed to gain some victories? Lets see.

So its 1000 points and my list is similar to last time except I added a psyker. He had 3 serpents, 10 avengers (2 units), 10 guardians, farseer and wraith knight.

Now this is a fair warning. I forgot my camera, so you are about to be subjected to photos almost as shameful as my traitorous tactics this game.

A prayer to the Gods of Chaos...

WW1 Imperial Guard Army - WIP

Given its been 100 years since the start of the Great War and the recent discovery of some great looking models I thought it would be a great time to start my next themed force. This army will be based off the French at Verdun with a Sci Fi twist added. So here is my inspiration and plan:

7th Edition Battle - Demon Incursion

The Ork Waagh stood up my forces the other night and we were greeted by Demonic beings instead. So as requested I have gone back to using the picture on turn by turn basis. As usual the game was 1000 points and the battle was in a lush but somewhat alien jungle. Anyway here is some fluff:

The Praetorian 3rd Fusiliers suddenly were ordered to halt on their way to Garrison post 1163A when the accompanying Astropath had a twisted fit on the ground. The Commander immediately ordered the company to hold a lose defensive formation. The Commissars arrived to put the unfortunate Astropath out of her misery when she screamed a warning in a voice so natural it put fear in the hearts of the men.

Seconds later otherworldly beings materialized  all around them and the 3rd Fusiliers training kicked in. They prepared to open fire...

Just a brief battle report today.

One last prayer before the Carnage...

Alternate Imperial Guard Models

So im getting carried away with posts lately but I have decided to compile a list of all the alternate Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum models I can find. I will try my best to keep it tidy and readable! I just think if people have one big list of alternate Guard models all with links etc it will be a hell of a lot easier to see whats available and heck I may find some cool ideas while im at it!

Remember, you are not limited at all when making an army. I wont include historic models here because they are easy to find and the list would be huge! But I will include bits stores as well just encase you want to add to your current army or just need bits.

I highly advise looking through all the sites and bits etc you can in the links. Or you may miss something that really speaks out to you.

So lets start with the obvious:

Praetorian Rough Riders - Badger Lancers?

Warning, concept art may be much better than the final product!

I felt like an 19th Century themed Anglo Zulu war Sci Fi army would not be complete without cavalry. But after owning over 30 rough riders on horseback in my time, I felt like id do something different. Thanks to someone I know I came across some Mantic Badgers below.

7th Edition Maelstorm Battle

The Necrons rose to fight the 8th Praetorians in the ash wastes. An open and desolate battlefield proved most deadly to vulnerable riflemen. Was a great game and casualties amassed on all sides. What was great about it was the Maelstorm cards forcing our armies to close the gap and led to brutal and harsh fire fights.
